ALL 100+ CASES ARE LISTED BELOW

Many thanks to all the generous folk who gave their time & money to this project

Our latest investigations have revealed over 100 men (mostly ex-Royal Marines) who died between 1915 & 1921 after being discharged invalided from the armed services. All are suspected cases of non-commemoration, their subsequent deaths believed to be due to a cause attributable to service. In all these cases of death after discharge, it is necessary to purchase the Death Certificate to identify the cause of death.

Due to the large number of Death Certificates required, it is beyond the finances of our little band to provide further funds, having already expended nearly £1000 of our hard earned cash purchasing Death Certificates for umpteen cases to date. It is therefore with cap in hand, that we ask visitors to lend their support to these 'Forgotten Men' & select a man from the list below with a view to purchasing his Death Certificate.

Listed below are the details of cases we believe warrant the purchase of the Death Certificate. It is only fair to state that it is not a certainty that the Death Certificate will show a cause due to service, but we believe there is a high probability that the Death Certificate will confirm our suspicions & thus allow us to proceed with their presentation to the CWGC.

Should you wish to help in this project, please follow this procedure:-

(1) Select an individual's case from the list below.
(2) Send an e-mail to us at Sponsors@jackclegg.com informing us of your good intentions & the man's name. We will respond within 24 hours to confirm the case remains outstanding (this to avoid duplication of sponsorship).

Our response e-mail will give details of how to purchase the Death Certificate (£7 online or £8 by post). We will supply our address with your confirmation e-mail in order that the Death Certificate may be sent direct to us.
You will not be asked to contribute further towards the costs of your chosen man's commemoration, nor to provide more Death Certificates in the future (although any unprompted return support would be welcome).

Upon receipt of the Death Certificate we will advise you via e-mail of the details contained therein. If the cause of death shows a link, or a high probablilty of a link to their cause of discharge, we can then proceed to obtain copies of their service documents & present their case to the CWGC.

Many thanks in advance to all those who sponsor the men listed here.

NOTES: The Death Certificate references are 99% certain to be that of the man in question. There is often a discrepancy between the birth date & the age given on the Certificate. It is common for ages to be a year or two out. The person who registered the death was responsible for the age given on the Death Certificate & they were often unaware of the man's given age on enlistment (they often enlisted under-age) or they just miscalculated their age at the time of registration. Twas a distressing time for many relatives to do mental arithmetic.

Sometimes a man enlisted & served under a different name to that shown in the Death Certificate Index. This is noted in the column "GRO UK Death Certificate Reference" by giving the name the Certificate is actually indexed by.
